Day 1: Arrival in Stralsund
We will hand over your rental bicycles to you. Stralsund is a great place to stroll around town. Stay overnight.
Day 2: Stralsund – Resort Towns
Distance: approx 62 km / 39 mi
Today’s leg of the tour takes you through South Rügen on tree-lined avenues, past peaceful fields and farm houses to the seaside resort towns on the east coast. For those who love trains, the ‘Rasender Roland’ narrow-gauge railway will take you from Putbus to the resort towns (fare payable on-site). Spend the night in Sellin or Binz or nearby.
Day 3: Resort Towns - Sassnitz
Distance: approx 38 km / 24 mi
On your way to Binz, the largest seaside resort town on Rügen, you will pass the hunting château, Jagdschloss Granitz, while cycling through idyllic surroundings. Continue along the Prorer Wiek Bay in the direction of the Jasmund peninsula. From there you will be able to see the highlands of the island with elevations of up to 160 m / 525 ft. Stay overnight in Sassnitz on the Jasmund peninsula.
Day 4: Sassnitz - Bergen
Distance: approx 45-50 km / 28-31 mi
The first thing on today’s agenda is the chalk cliffs and the chalk rock promontory ‘Königsstuhl’. This is a must-see for every visitor. Afterwards, cycle down the valley. On your way to Bergen there will be great places to look out over the spectacular island of Rügen. Continue on past the shallow bays called ‘Großer’ and ‘Kleiner Jasmunder Bodden’ and make your way to the island’s largest town, Bergen. Stay overnight in or near Bergen.
Day 5: Bergen - Stralsund
Distance: approx 40 km / 25 mi
Plan some time to stroll through Bergen. Take the opportunity to see the Marienkirche church, Rügen's oldest maintained building. Or, you may want to go up the observation tower on Rugard, the island’s highest point. Cycle west to the shallow bay, Kubitzer Bodden. The cycling path will take you through the tranquil landscape of West Rügen back to Stralsund. Stay overnight in Stralsund.
Day 6: Departure from Stralsund
Depart after breakfast. Travellers are responsible for their homeward transportation.
