Day 1: Arrival in Stralsund
Travellers are responsible for their own transportation to Stralsund. Stroll through the lovely Hanseatic town and admire the architecture and old brick houses. Prepare for the following day and spend the night.
Day 2: Mukran – Rønne
Distance: approx 5 km / 3 mi
Take the bus to Mukran. From there, it is a 3½ hour ferry ride to to Bornholm’s tranquil capital, Rønne. There are several museums, picturesque streets, and shopping alleys to be enjoyed before calling it a night.
Day 3: Rønne – Allinge / Sandkas
Distance: approx 25 km / 16 mi
Cycle through Rønne to Hasle. The bicycle trail takes you along the coast line and near Jons Kapel, a 40 m / 131 ft high cliff. After a short incline, cycle through the thick forest, past the granite quarry, and to Allinge or Sandkås.
Day 4: Excursion to the ruins of Hammershus
Distance: approx 25 km / 16 mi
Starting in Allinge, cycle over rolling hills to the oldest castle ruins of the north called ‘Hammershus’. Afterwards, continue to the beautiful nature reserve in Hammeren. Weather permitting, don’t pass up the opportunity to go for a swim in the Sandvig bay. Otherwise, take advantage of the indoor pool. Accommodations same as day 3.
Day 5: Allinge / Sandkås – Svaneke / Balka
Distance: approx 35 km / 22 mi
Cycle along the coast to Gudhjem and visit the art museum there. A slight detour to the cliffs of Heeligdomskliperne is a must. The smokehouses and the small harbour define the town of Gudhjem. Continue along the coast through several small fishing villages until you reach Svaneke. Spend the night in Svaneke/Balka.
Day 6: Excursion to South Bornholm
Distance: approx 38 km / 24 mi
Today the tour takes you inland to Østermarie and Østerlars. Visit Bornholm’s largest and oldest round church there. Cycle through forest, past Almendingen, and to Arsdale on the Northeast coast. The wind mill from the 19th century is used as a grain mill today. Return to Svaneke / Balka and spend the night.
Day 7: East Coast - Rønne
Distance: approx 36-42 km / 22-26 mi
Cycle along the coast to Nexø. The island’s largest fishing harbour is located there. Continue to Aakirkeby and visit the oldest stone church on Bornholm. Spend the night in Rønne.
Day 8: Rønne – Mukran – Sassnitz
Return to Mukran in the morning by ferry. Depending on the departure time, you may have time to visit the town of Binz. Spend the night in Sassnitz.
Day 9: Sassnitz – North Jasmund / Wittow
Distance: approx 45 km / 28 mi
Today’s leg of the tour takes you to ‘Königsstuhl’, the highest and most famous point on the island. It will be well worth your while to take an excursion to Cape Arkona. Stay overnight on the peninsula of Jasmund or Wittow.
Day 10: North Jasmund / Wittow – Hiddensee – Stralsund
Distance: approx 25 km / 16 mi
Cross the spit of land on the way to Wittow. Take the ferry to the island of Hiddensee. The unique heath and light house called ‘Der Dornbusch’, fishing villages, the monastery, and much more are causes for a very enjoyable stay. Take the ferry back to Stralsund in the afternoon and spend the night there.
Day 11: Departure from Stralsund
Turn in your rental bike and depart Stralsund after breakfast.
