Day 1: Arrival in the hanseatic city of Stralsund
Travellers are responsible for their own transportation to Stralsund. Before beginning the cycling tour, explore historic Stralsund’s (town hall), Patrician and Gabled buildings, and Gothic churches. The ‘Kulturhistorisches Museum’ offers interesting insight into the history of the city and Western Pomerania. Spend the night.
Day 2: Hiddensee and Rügen
Distance: approx 22 km / 22 mi
This morning take the ferry to Hiddensee. Explore Rügen’s car-free “sister island” by bike and foot. In the afternoon, take the ferry to Schaprode and cycle through West Rügen to the historic manor house in the north-east of the ‘Muttland’ where you will spend the night.
Day 3: Castles, Manor houses and landscaped parks in the 'Muttland'
Cycle secluded country paths and explore the central and north-east ‘Muttland’ - the name for the main part of the island. Continue on through Ralswiek and Bergen past manor houses and gardens, some of which are open to visitors. The Kartzitz manor house was built ca. 1750 and is one of the most beautiful baroque buildings on the island. The expansive garden of ‘Gutshof Pansevitz’ manor near Gingst is definitely worth a visit. Accommodations same as Day 2.
Day 4: Cape Arkona - Jasmund
Distance: approx 37 km / 37 mi
Prepared to experience more beautiful scenery! The ferry will take you to Wittow, the most northern part of the island. Cycle north along the bay called ‘Wieker Bodden’ to Cape Arkona, then south along the east coast to Juliusruh. After crossing the forested headland called, ‘der Schaabe’, you will pass Seaside Resort ‘Glowe’. Spend the night in nearby Castle Hotel Spyker.
Day 5: Chalk Cliffs - Seaside Resorts
Traverse the 100 m / 328 ft elevated Jasmund Peninsula until you reach the ‘Königsstuhl’ in Jasmund National Park. Take in the view of the sea or visit the National Park Museum. Continue on to Binz and Sellin via Sassnitz and Mukran. Stay overnight in one of the resorts.
Day 6: Mönchgut Peninsula
Distance: approx 22 km / 22 mi
Peninsula Mönchgut begins just south of Sellin. At one time, the monks who lived there began digging a trench between Lake Sellin and the Baltic Sea in an attempt to separate Mönchgut from Rügen. However, the trench was never finished. Cycle serene paths on the pensinsula to the Zickerschen Hills and back to where you will spend the night. Accommodations same as day 5.
Day 7: South Rügen - Stralsund
Distance: approx 37 km / 37 mi
Follow the coast line along delightful paths through Seedorf and Groß Stresow until you reach Putbus. At the castle church, you will discover interesting facts about the castle and its former residents. Don’t miss out on a leisure walk around the castle grounds before continuing on. Cycle through Poseritz and Gustow on your way back to Stralsund. Spend the night.
Day 8: Departure from Stralsund
