The Spree Forest Cycle Route is an experience for all your senses.
Even though there is no "official" Spree Forest Cycle Route, the Brandenburg Nature Reserve offers many routes through the Spree Forest. The paths through the forest take you along the natural river course of the Spree. Follow the various canals and discover the meadows and marshlands. Enjoy the fresh air and tranquillity of the biosphere reserve.

Unique Animal and Plant Species
Watch chirping birds or grazing deer in the meadows. Don't forget to bring your binoculars and camera to catch some wonderful wildlife moments. Amazingly, there are over 1600 different plant species in the reserve.
Explore the Surroundings along the Spree River
There are so many charming villages and towns to enjoy such as the old stagecoach city of Cottbus. The Spree Forest Cycle Route runs from there to the city known for the "Captain of Köpenick". Natural lakes lure you for a swim. Try the local gherkin specialties from which the Cucumber Cycle Route (Gurkenradweg) derives its name. There are ample restaurants and bars in the area.

Spree Forest Cycle Route - Unspoilt Nature near Berlin
The Spree Region lies approx. 100 km / 60 mi Southeast of Berlin and is approx. 3000 km² / 1158 mi² in size. The Spree River branches off into many canals and streams which run through the farmsteads, villages, forests, meadows, and fields like no where else in Europe.

The biosphere reserve is at the centre of the forest which has been preserved very well and seems jungle-like. Upper Spree Forest consists mainly of farmsteads and villages which create a large garden-like landscape. The flat terrain and the many pedestrian and bicycle paths make this area one of visitors' favourite holiday destination in the New German States.
