Day 1: Arrival in Dresden

Travellers are responsible for their own transportation to Dresden. Spend the night in Dresden.


Day 2: Dresden – Pirna
Distance: approx 21 km / 16 mi

There is an abundance of casltes and artistic points of interesest in the region around Dresden. Follow the Elbe River past the castles once belonging to Prince Albert, past the “Blue Wonder”, and past the stately vineyards on your way to Pillnitz. Not too far from there is beautiful Old Town of Pirna. Stay overnight there.


Day 3: Pirna - Bad Schandau
Distance: approx 45 km / 28 mi

The Königstein Fortress and Bastion are favorite tourist destinations. The seemingly magical rock formations surrounded by forest are captivating. The “Kneipp” spa town of Bad Schandau is the perfect place to spend the night.


Day 4: Bad Schandau & Sandstone Mts. Excursion
Distance: approx 22 km / 14 mi

You are free to either take the lift to the top of the mountain and walk or cycle up the steep incline. There is a great overlook onto the valley and other points of interest to be visited around the spa town. Accommodations same as Day 2.


Day 5: Bad Schandau - Meissen
Distance: approx 64 km / 40 mi

It’s approx. 64 km / 40 mi from Bad Schandau to Meissen. Or you can take a commuter train to Dresden and cycle approx. 20 km / 16 mi from there to Meissen. Follow the trails along the river and visit the fortress, Königstein. Continue to Meissen and spend the night there.


Day 6: Meissen – Diesbar-Seusslitz - Meissen
Distance: approx 45 km / 28 mi

A visit to the stately Meissen Porcelain Factory and the Albrecht Castle is a must. You will also want to take an excursion to the wine town of Diesbar-Seusslitz and taste regional wines.


Day 7: Meissen – Moritzburg – Dresden
Distance: approx 38-46 km / 24-29 mi

Today you will leave the Elbe Valley and enter the Promnitz Valley. The highlight today is “Schloss Moritzburg”, the hunting chateau of regional wine growers. It was originally a simple Renaissance castle built for Duke Moritz. Later, under Frederick Augustus I, it became a magnificent Baroque edifice. You can take the narrow-gauge railway called the ‘Lössnitzdackel’ back to Dresden (fare payable on-site). Spend the night in Dresden.


Day 8: Departure from Dresden

Turn in your rental bike and depart Dresden after breakfast. Travellers are responsible for their homeward transportation. We would be glad to book an extra night for you in Dresden if you like.
