Oder-Neisse-Spree Cycle Route – Circuit Tour

This tour takes you from Cottbus, famous for its stage coaches, to Berlin / Köpenick, where you have the opportunity to see the famous ‘Captain of Köpenick’ statue. Cycle along the Rivers Oder, Neisse, and Spree on trails through delightful meadows. There are many beautiful lakes to be enjoyed.

Day 1: Arrival in Cottbus

Travellers are responsible for their own transportation to Cottbus. The metropolitan city in the Lausitz region is one of Germany’s greenest cities with several parks. There are many restaurants to choose from to round out your evening. Spend the night in Cottbus.


Day 2: Cottbus – Burg
Distance: approx 42 km / 26 mi

Pass several ponds on your way to the fortress town of Peitz. Visit the Peitz Hut & Fishery Museum there. Cycle along the Spree to the rural settlement of Burg. Or take the alternative route on the ‘Gurkenradweg’ (the ‘Cucumber Cycle Route’) to Dissen. Visit the local museum for information on Sorbs and storks. Spend the night in or near Burg.


Day 3: Burg – Unterspreewald
Distance: approx 56 km / 35 mi

Today’s leg of the tour takes you through the green labyrinth of the Spree forest. Cycle through high forest to the small village of Lehde with its beautiful lagoon. There’s plenty of time for an enjoyable boat ride from one of the many harbours. Cycle through the tourist towns of Lübbenau and Lübben on your way to Schlepzig, the most beautiful village in the Spree forest. Stay overnight in Krausnick or Schlepzig.


Day 4: Unterspreewald – Beeskow
Distance: approx 56 km / 35 mi

Today’s destination is the small city of Beeskow with its historic city centre. The city wall has been wonderfully preserved. The lakes Neuendorf and Schwieloch are great for an afternoon swim. There is a local history and culture museum in the castle in Beeskow. The Marienkirche is one of the largest churches in Mark Brandenburg. Stay overnight in Beeskow.


Day 5: Beeskow – Fürstenwalde
Distance: approx 54 km / 34 mi

Cycle along the river bends to Fürstenwalde. Today’s leg of the tour takes you through one of Brandenburg’s most beautiful forests, between the Spree and the Oder-Spree Canal. Enjoy a meal in one of the restaurants near the river lock in Kersdorf. Take a walk on a nature path or visit the stag monument. Take in the peaceful surroundings before entering the metropolis of Berlin. Stay overnight in Fürstenwalde.


Day 6: Fürstenwalde – Müllrose
Distance: approx 33-53 km km / 21-33 mi

Today, cycle to the river lock in Kersdorf. The stretch lying between the Oder-Spree Canal and the Spree River is one of the region’s most beautiful areas. Leave the Spree and continue to Müllrose. The market square is quite cozy. The promenade invites you to a leisurely stroll. Müllrose is known as the “Gate to the Schlaube Valley”. Stay the night in or near Müllrose.


Day 7: Müllrose - Guben
Distance: approx 62 km / 39 mi

Continue along the Oder and the German-Polish border to Eisenhüttenstadt. If you are a history buff, you may enjoy a visit to the Document Centre for GDR Everyday Life (Dokumentationszentrum). A detour to the monestary, church, and brewery (est. in the 13th century) at Neuzelle is well worth it. When you reach Ratzdorf, leave the Oder and follow the Neisse to the hat maker’s town of Guben. Spend the night there or nearby.


Day 8: Guben – Bad Muskau
Distance: approx 68 km / 42 mi

On your way from Guben to Forst, pass the brown coal mine of Jänschwalde. A visit to the rose garden in Forst is well worth it. Cross the green border into Saxony and continue to the birth house of the well known landscape architect, Hermann von Pückler. The park landscaped by him has been declared a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO. Stay overnight in or near Bad Muskau.


Day 9: Bad Muskau - Cottbus
Distance: approx 67 km / 41 mi

Start your day by taking the train from Muskau Park to Kromlau Park. The Culture Centre in Schleife gives you insight into the Sorbian culture. Continue on the ‘Froschradweg’ (the ‘Frog Cycle Route’) to Neustadt and enter the ‘Spreeradweg’. The trail leads to the “Pearl of Lausitz”. Cycle along the dam back to Cottbus and spend the night there.


Day 10: Departure from Cottbus

Depart after breakfast. Travellers are responsible for their homeward transportation.
