Darss Peninsula

The peninsula of Fischland-Darss-Zingst lies between the Baltic Sea and a West Pomeranian bay called the ‘Bodden’. Be enamoured with famous Baltic Sea resort towns such as Dierhagen, Prerow, Wustrow and Zingst. Experience more than 100 years of tradition in the artists’ colony of Ahrenshoop. A large part of the countryside belongs to the National Park, Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft. The area is unique with its pine woods, bluffs, beaches, and wading birds and cranes. Enjoy the tranquillity of the bay away from traffic. Quiet fishing harbours and quaint villages are quite lovely, surrounded by various flora and beautiful landscape. Take it all in - soft rolling hills, pleasant breezes, and a most charming environment.

Day 1: Arrival in Stralsund

Travellers are responsible for their transportation to Stralsund. Explore its numerous alleys or visit the ‘Deutsches Meeresmuseum/Ozeaneum’, Stralsund’s fascinating aquarium. The exhibitions display aspects of fishery and sea life in the North and Baltic Seas. Enjoy an evening meal in a cosy restaurant or pub and prepare for the tour ahead. Spend the night in Stralsund.


Day 2: Stralsund - Barth
Distance: approx 45 km / 28 mi

On your way to Barth, trails will lead you along the ‘Bodden’, or bay, past farm houses and through tranquil villages. The coastal landscape was formed during the Ice Age. You will reach Barth in the afternoon and spend the night there.


Day 3: Barth - Zingst - Darss
Distance: approx 25-30 km / 16-19 mi

Take a liesurely walk onto the pier and roam around town. It will be well worth it. Cross the dike to the peninsula of Darss. Enjoy the relaxed ambience in Prerow. If you like, visit the Darss Museum and the nostalgic Seaman’s Graveyard there. The west end landscape is wild and romantic. It is easily reached by bike. Stay overnight on the peninsula of Darss.


Day 4: Darss - Fischland
Distance: approx 35 km / 22 mi

The resort town of Ahrenshoop has its own special flair with its artist cottages, idyllic thatch roof houses, and beach. Cycle towards Wustrow and spend the night on the peninsula.


Day 5: Fischland - Southern Banks of the 'Bodden' - Barth
Distance: approx 38 km / 24 mi

Between Ribnitz and Damgarten lies the historic border separating Mecklenburg and West Pomerania. The old monastery in Ribnitz houses the largest amber museum in the region. Cycle back to Barth on peaceful avenues and enjoy idyllic 'Bodden' landscape along the Saaler Bay. Spend the night in Barth.


Day 6: Barth - Stralsund
Distance: approx 45 km / 28 mi

The last day of the tour will be a memorable one. Old manor houses lie in tranquil fields. Storks are in abundance. Pass small farm houses on the way back to Stralsund. Stay overnight in Stralsund.


Day 7: Departure from Stralsund

Depart after breakfast. Travellers are responsible for their own transportation home.
