Oder-Neisse Cycle Route
Our cycling holiday on the Oder-Neisse Cycle Route starts in Zittau in the Lusation Highlands. The route is Germany's easternmost, connecting several countries, regions, and landscapes, and is over 600 km / 373 mi long. It runs along the river and mostly along the German-Polish border from the Lusation Highlands to the Baltic Sea. (Other popular routes such as the Berlin-Usedom Cycle Route and the Berlin Wall Cycle Route run parallel.) Since the stretch along the river is mostly downhill and there aren't any steep inclines to overcome, the bicycle tour is suitable for families with children.
The route itself starts in Nová Ves nad Nisou in the Czech Republic near the Neisse's spring in the Jizera Mountains. From there it is 55 km / 34 mi to Zittau in Germay. To shorten the stretch, cycle partly on the Elbe River Cycle Route. The Oder-Neisse Cycle Route continues downhill to Görlitz, past the Spree Forest Cycle Route to Frankfurt (Oder), Küstrin, Schwedt, and Ueckermünde on the Szczecin Lagoon. The tour can be extended to go through Anklam to Ahlbeck on Usedom Island and the beaches of the vast Baltic Sea.
Experience the Bad Muskau Park and the Forst Rose Garden. Pass the former mines in Guben and the crater lakes. The area is great for walking. Just park your bike for a while and enjoy.
There are plenty of opportunities to take excursions across the German-Polish border and back. The Lower Oder Valley National Park stretches from Hohensaaten to Szczecin. Continue following the cycle route to the Szczecin Lagoona nd Ueckermünde. From there you can cycle on the Balic Sea Cycle Route to explore Usedom Island or Germany's largest island, Rügen Island.
