About the Spree Region
The idyllic landscape, approx. 100 km / 62 mi southeast of Berlin, of innumerable rivers, streams, and canals covers an area of approx. 300 km² / 116 mi². On the Spree Forest Cycle Route you’ll find farm houses, villages, forest, fields, and meadows surrounded by streams and water ways, like no where else in Europe.
The biosphere reserve consists of forest left virtually untouched by mankind.
The Upper Spree Forest is characterised by farmsteds and villages which dot the landscape. The Lower Spree Forest is a more tranquil region with vast meadows and forest. The flat landscape and bicycle and walking trails make the Spree Forest one of Germany’s favourite bicycle and walking holiday regions in the “New States”.
