Day 1: Arrival in Stralsund

Travellers are responsible for their transportation to Stralsund. If you booked a rental bike, you can pick it up at your hotel in the afternoon. It’s about a five minute walk to the Old Town from the hotel. There you can visit sights such as the Marienkirche (church), the Deutsches Meeresmuseum / Ozeaneum (oceanographic museums), the town hall and the old town square. Spend the night in Stralsund.

Route R1: From Binz & through the South of Rügen
Distance: approx 50-60 km / 31-37 miles

After breakfast, take the train to Binz. Take some time to admire the beauty in Binz with its promenade, gorgeous spa hotel, and pier and restaurant. Cycle across the Granitz elevation (there is a hunting chateau called “Jagdschloss Granitz” in the area). Continue to Stresower Bay and along the coast to Putbus. Sights worth seeing there are the central square (or circle), the castle grounds, theatre, and orangery. Cycle to Stralsund.

Route R2: Hiddensee or the West Coast of Rügen
Distance: approx 30-70 km / 19-43 miles

Take the ferry to Hiddensee in the morning and explore the island by bike. Cycle through the heath of Neuendorf to Vitte and Kloster. The view across the island and the North of Rügen from the lighthouse, the “Dornbusch”, is fantastic. You can either spend the rest of the afternoon on the island and take the ferry back to Stralsund in the evening, or you can ferry to Schaprode around noon and then cycle through the national park, “Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft” in the tranquil West of Rügen and back to Stralsund.

Route R3: Bergen, Sassnitz & the Chalk Cliffs
Distance: approx 50-60 km / 31-37 miles

Take the train to Bergen. Visit the church, Marienkirche, and the tower dedicated to Ernst-Moritz-Arndt. Cycle to Litzow, located between the Great and Small Jasmund Bays, and to the Jasmund National Park. From the Jasmund Bay, cycle through the Stubnitz Forest, on the chalk cliffs over Sassnitz, to the beach at Mukran, and back to Lietzow and Bergen. Take a train back to Stralsund.

Route U1: Island of Usedom
Distance: approx 40-75 km / 25-47 miles

Take the train from Stralsund to Ahlbeck. Explore the imperial bath towns. Cycle north along the long beach promenade. Your tour takes you through beach forests and along the coast and dikes. There are ample opportunities to go for a swim. If you like, you can even cycle to Peenemünde and Wolgast or take a ferry to Freest and then cycle to Greifswald. Take the train back to Stralsund. It’s approx. 40 km / 25 mi to Wolgast and 75 km / 47 mi to Greifswald.

Route D1: Along the Bay to Barth
Distance: approx 45 km / 28 miles

Cycle along the sound of Stralsund on charming trails and then along the bay to the “Vineta Town” of Barth. Looking towards Zingst, get a great view from the observation platform onto the reeds, water, and bird life. It’s worth taking an excursion to Gross Mohrdorf to visit the Crane Information Centre. Take a train back to Stralsund in the afternoon.

Route D2: Across the Fischland-Darss-Zingst Peninsula to Barth
Distance: approx 50-70 km / 31-43 miles
