Cycle along the Havel River and enjoy the glorious and diverse landscape. The river starts in Mecklenburg-Pomerania, is approx. 325 km / 202 mi long, and ends in Saxony-Anhalt. The cities of Potsdam and Berlin can be visited.
From Ankershagen to Henningsdorf

The official Havel River Cycle Route is the best way to discover the Havel Region. The tour is great for just about any age. There are resting areas along the way and many accommodation possibilities. Start in Ankershagen in Müritz County in Mecklenburg-Pomerania. The river starts near Lake Mühlensee and the route runs near several lakes. Birds nest in the reeds on the lakeshore.
Fürstenberg/Havel is one of the larger cities on the tour. Its church steeple can be seen from afar. The monastery ruins of Himmelpfort are from the year 1299. The path in the forest leads to the double bascule bridge, Hastbrücke, in Zehdenick. Part of the Havel River is called the "Fast Havel" – it is not navigable and joins the Oder-Havel-Canal. Part of the stretch must be cycled away from the river to Henningsdorf.

An excursion to Berlin is worth your while. The points of interest in the cosmopolitan city are a must-see such as Alexanderplatz, the TV tower, and the world time clock. The nearby cafés offer local delicacies.
The route then leads to Potsam and the beautiful surrounding lakes. The large lake, Grosser Wannsee, is famous for its "Pfaueninsel" (peacock island). The castle and palm garden is worth a visit. The Baroque UNESCO world heritage sight, Sanssouci Palace, is a must-see.

Lake Templiner See and its dreamy bays invite visitors to take a relaxing break on its shores and in nearby deciduous and mixed forests. The route leads to the West to the city of Brandenburg known for its cypress tree-lined avenue. The nature reserve, Naturpark Westhavelland, ist approx. 1300 km² / 502 mi² in size.
The city of Rathenow is situated on the Havel and is practically surrounded by forest. St. Georg's church and the Bismarck Tower are a must-see. The cycle route ends in the North in Havelberg, a quaint town in Saxony-Anhalt.
