Day 1: Arrival in Waren at Lake Müritz
We look forward to welcoming you and handing over your rental bike to you. You may want to arrive early enough to take a stroll through the historic Old Town and to enjoy a lovely evening meal in any one of the restaurants on the harbour. Spend the night in or near Waren.
Day 2: Waren - Plau
Distance: approx. 56-65 km
The first leg of today’s tour takes you along the “Upper Lakes”. Cycle along Lake Müritz to the fishing village of Sietow. Continue on to Lake Fleesensee and to Malchow with its Slavic roots. Cycle to Lake Plau, the second largest lake in Mecklenburg. The view is quite impressive. The channel which leads into the Elbe river begins at the historical blue lift bridge in Plau. Stay overnight in or near Plau am See.
Day 3: Plau - Güstrow
Distance: approx. 56 km
Cycle the trails across the rolling hills near the Elde River. The Nature Park, ‘Nossentiner-Schwinzer heath' cycling through moraine landscape you will see the city towers as you approach Güstrow. There are several sculptures by Ernst Barlach in Güstrow. A visit to the Renaissance castle or a stroll through the historic Old Town is well worth it. Spend the night in Güstrow.
Day 4: Güstrow - Stavenhagen
Distance: approx. 60-75 km
“Mecklenburg’s Switzerland” is known for its rolling hills and forest. Visiting the castle, ‘Burg There are many manor houses to be seen on your way to Stavenhagen. One of the most impressive castles in the region is in Basedow. You can visit the Stavenhagen Literature Museum to find out more about the life and work of Fritz Reuter. Stay overnight in Stavenhagen.
Day 5: Stavenhagen - Neubrandenburg
Distance: approx. 43 km
Enjoy the beauty of the vast landscape, lakes, and valleys. The oldest oak trees in Central Europe are found at the Ivenacker Zoo. Neubrandenburg’s city wall has been virtually perfectly kept in tact and is well worth seeing. Spend the night in Neubrandenburg.
Day 6: Neubrandenburg - Neustrelitz
Distance: approx. 32 km
(shorter alternative route possible) Lake Tollensee stretches about 11 km / 7 mi south of Neubrandenburg. The trails around the lake are well built and offer a pleasurable cycling experience. There are several points of interest pertaining to Prussian Queen Luise on your way to Neustrelitz, where you will spend the night.
Day 7: Neustrelitz - Waren
Distance: approx. 55 km
The last leg of this tour takes you through Müritz National Park. Many endangered species, such as the seahawk, find their home there. Stay overnight in or near Waren.
Day 8: Departure from Waren
Depart after breakfast. Travellers are responsible for their homeward transportation.
