Travelroute

Day 1: Arrival in Munich

Travellers are responsible for their transportation to Munich. The state capital and its many points of interest (The English Garden, town hall, etc.) await you.

Day 2: Munich – Murnau at Lake Staffel

Distance: approx. 35/58 km

Cycle from Munich through Forstenrieder Park to Lake Starnberg. Continue on the bicycle trail along the lakeshore to Seeshaupt. Follow the beautiful trails through typical Bavarian towns, past the Lakes Osternsee and Riegsee to Murnau at lake Staffel.

Day 3: Murnau – Garmisch Partenkirchen

Distance: approx. 45 km

Start your day by cycling through the Murnau Moos Nature Reserve (the largest marsh land area in Central Europe). Continue through untouched nature and follow the Loisach River to Garmisch Partenkirchen. This leg of the tour has been purposefully kept short. You will have time to take the rack-and-pinion train up the mountain (2962 m / 9718 ft). The fare is payable on-site. The view onto the Alps is fantastic.

Day 4: Garmisch Partenkirchen – Wallgau

Distance: approx. 45 km

Take the train across the 300 m / 984 ft high bridge to Scharnitz. Cycle a slight incline through wildly romantic ravines and past lush meadows to the source of the river, Isar. Continue though the sunny high valley with glorious Karwendel and Wetterstein Mountain Ranges panoramas. Go on to Mittenwald and Wallgau, a town where Bavarian customs are still practiced.

Day 5: Wallgau – Bad Tölz

Distance: approx. 65 km

Cycle along the crystal clear turquoise blue water of the Isar River to the impressive Lake Sylvenstein, through the town of Lenggries, and gorgeous landscape to Bad Tölz. Two trade routes crossed there – the Isar River and the old Salt Road from Reichenhall to Allgäu. Many ornamented town homes were built during its golden age.
