9 Days / 408 km (254 m) / from 699 €

This bicycle tour in the Baltic Sea Region has seven stages and takes you from Flensburg to Lübeck, Germany. Other towns you will visit on this tour include: Glücksburg, Gelting, Kappeln, Eckenförde, Kiel, Hohwacht, Heiligenhafen, Grömitz, Neustadt, Timmendorf Beach, and Travemünde.

Day 1: Arrival in Flensburg

Flensburg is over 700 years old and was once ruled by the Danes around 400 years ago. Stroll through the charming alleys of the Old Town before turning in.

Day 2: Flensburg – Kappeln & Surroundings

Distance: approx. 73 km

Cycle along the Flensburg Fjord to one of Germany’s beautiful moated castles in Glücksburg. Continue on around the Gelting Bay, a great place for fishing, and toward Kappeln. Spend the night in or near Kappeln.

Day 3: Kappeln – Eckernförde & Surroundings

Distance: approx. 45 km

It would be worth your while to stroll through the pretty little town of Kappeln before heading out. Notice the burial mounds and admire the resort town of Damp on your way to today’s destination. You will also pass a manor house in Ludwigsburg. Stay overnight in or near Eckernförde.

Day 4: Eckernförde – Kiel

Distance: approx. 48 km

Admire typical north German architecture located between the two streets, Kieler Strasse and Jungfernstieg in Eckernförde. You may want to visit the Borby Church with its beautiful altar, built in 1686, and rare baptismal from the 13th century. Cycle across the Wohld Peninsula on your way to the state capitol, Kiel. Spend the night in Kiel.

Day 5: Kiel – Lütjenburg & Surroundings

Distance: approx. 56-57 km

Take the ferry from Kiel to Laboe (fare payable on-site). Don’t miss out on visiting the prominent naval cenotaph and submarine. Continue on past Laboe’s lively beach and harbour to Stein. Be captivated by the beautiful resort towns, vast beaches and stately manor houses in the back country. Spend the night in Lütjenburg or Hohwacht.

Day 6: Lütjenburg – Heiligenhafen/Großenbrode

Distance: approx. 38-58 km

Today, you will leave the breath-taking scenery around Hohwacht Bay behind and cycle past Weissenhäuser Beach to Oldenburg. Arrive in Heiligenhafen which is near the island of Fehmarn.

Day 7: Heiligenhafen – Neustadt in Holstein

Distance: approx. 60-81 km

It’s not far to Lübeck Bay. Continue on past Dahme and Kellenhausen to Grömitz. Grömitz is one of the oldest and largest resort towns in the Baltic region. Cycle south to the little Holstein city of Neustadt and spend the night there or in Pelzerhaken.

Day 8: Neustadt – Lübeck

Distance: approx. 25-46 km

Cycle mostly along the beaches and promenades of Haffkrug, Scharbeutz, and Timmendorf on your way to Travemünde. Care for a swim? There are also many cafés, restaurants, boutiques and shops to lose sense of time in. Spend the night in Lübeck.

Day 9: Departure from Lübeck

You won’t want to pass up the opportunity to admire Lübeck’s churches and monasteries, quaint alleys, and town homes. Visit the literature museum, ‘Buddenbrockhaus’, which was once owned by the Mann family. And, a taste of Lübeck’s famous marzipan is simply a must.
