Cycling Tour: Radfahren entlang der Elf Städte Tour

8 Days / 293 km (182 m) / from 525 €

Day 1: Arrival in Leeuwarden

Leeuwarden is the most important city in Friesland. The Old Town is a great place to go for a leisurely stroll. The beautiful historic buildings, the Gothic chancellery, and the museums such as the nature museum or the Princessehof are worth visiting.

Day 2: Leeuwarden – Sneek

Distance: approx. 45 km

Cycle to Sneek, a small city once surrounded by a moat and wall. Visit the town hall and St. Martin's Church.

Day 3: Sneek - Harich/Balk

Distance: approx. 50 km

Harich and Balk are not far from Lake IJssel. Sloten is the smallest city along the Eleven Cities Route with only 700 inhabitants. Enjoy the small villages including Balk and Friesland's landscape.

Day 4: Harich/Balk - Bolsward

Distance: approx. 51-58 km

Bolsward is known for its picturesque streets. Stavoren is known for water sports, and Workum is also worth visiting. The cities were once part of the Hanseatic League.

Day 5: Bolsward - Franeker

Distance: approx. 30 km

Makkum is known for its ceramics. Franeker was once an important university city. Enjoy the sights such as the town hall with its Renaissance architecture and the Coopmanshaus, and take a break in a student pub.

Day 6: Franeker - Dokkum

Distance: approx. 63-75 km

The fortifications of Dokkum are well preserved and are known as the bolwerken (= bulwarks). The city is also called the "Boniface City" as there is a St. Boniface Church and Chapel there.

Day 7: Dokkum - Leeuwarden

Distance: approx. 35 km

Cycle back to Leeuwarden and visit the quaint villages of Rinsumageest and Burdaard on your way there.

Day 8: Departure from Leeuwarden

Depart after breakfast. Travellers are responsible for their homeward transportation.
