Day 1: Arrival in Burg
Travellers are responsible for their transportation to Burg. Arrive during the course of the day. Pick up your rental bike. Take some time to relax in a thermal bath in the “Spreewaldtherme”.
Day 2: Around Burg
Distance: approx. 29 km
Today you have a chance to get to know the town of Burg. The route takes you through all three districts. Start in the “barefoot” park where your body and spirit can relax. Past the row boat harbour, Waldschlösschen (not often frequented), you will find the oldest restaurant in the region, the “Polenzschänke”. Continue past the maze garden to the Bismarck Tower and Weiden Cathedral. A few more points of interest are the Spree Harbour, the local history parlour “Heimatstube”, and the old Spree Forest train station.
Day 3: Burg – Cottbus – Burg
Distance: approx. 52-77 km
One of today’s destinations is the Branitz Park in Cottbus landscaped by Prince Pückler. Cycle a short stretch on the Cucumber Cycle Route to the Lausitz Metropole, Cottbus. Besides the Old Town with its market square, there are several more points of interest such as the zoo and the “Spreeauenpark”. Cycle back to Burg via the route on which you came or take the longer but prettier route past the old fortification town of Peitz.
Day 4: Burg – Straupitz - Burg
Distance: approx. 41 km
The road along the narrow gauge railway begins at the Bismarck Tower. Cycle through a couple of small Spree Forest villages to the “Pintschens Quell” (a natural monument and spring) and the almost 1000 year old Florentine Oak tree. The two lakes invite you for a swim on a warm summer day. In Straupitz you may want to visit the old granary, the Schinkel Church, and the Dutch wind mill. The mill offers a show of how grain is cut, ground, and pressed. Experience pure nature near Burg-Kauper whilst cycling approx. 4 km / 2.5 mi through high forest.
Day 5: Burg – Lübbenau – Raddusch - Burg
Distance: approx. 30-40 km
Cycle either past the Dubkow mill or the small forest castle to Leipe. Continue on the picturesque trail to the small village on the lagoon, Lehde. Mail is still delivered by row boat there. The cucumber and the open-air museum are further points of interest. Experience the market life in Lübbenau near the large harbour. A small detour to the Spree Forest restaurant, Wotschofska, is recommendable. On your way back to Burg through Boblitz and Raddusch, be sure to visit the cucumber canning factory, Rabe, and enjoy the many Spree Forest specialties they have to offer.
Day 6: Departure from Burg
Travellers are responsible for their homeward transportation after breakfast unless an extended stay was booked.
